Funk-pop from Magazine Gap – ‘Calling Card’ single and EP coming Nov 25th

According to their website, Magazine Gap have played gigs all around the world – “the UK (including headline performances in 13 major cities) and over to Ireland, crisscrossed the United States (from New York to Chicago, New Orleans to Los Angeles) and around the Far East (Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong), plus delivered an acclaimed concert at the world’s most eclectic music festival – Montreux – in front of a discerning audience of 2,000 people”.

That’s a lot of venues, a lot of audiences and a lot of ears on their music. And it’s hard to imagine that many of those weren’t captured by their popular funk stylings. It’s a genre driven by easily picked up bass and drum grooves, which gives their music real energy. The new single, ‘Calling Card’ is the latest example of this, and you can find out all about their new EP of the same name on the Magazine Gap website.

Excellent pop single ‘Something More’ from Luke Potter

Having travelled the world to find inspiration for his music and lyrics, Luke Potter is a deceptively grown up singer-songwriter for a man of his age. Specialising in songs which are widely relatable, his latest single is the excellent ‘Something More’.

It’s available now on iTunes, alongside various other of his singles, albums and EPs which have got the attention of music fans in both the UK and the US. And, with a modern pop style of singer-songwriting, he’s likely to keep picking up more and more.

Ellie Jane continues her momentum with new EP – ‘Clocks’

It’s been a big couple of years for young UK song writer Ellie Jane. This talented young lady reached the final of Open Mic UK, a huge national independent talent competition, in 2015 and also saw a collaboration with drum’n’bass duo Mind Vortex featured on Radio 1. These things don’t happen by accident, and are a marker for just how promising Ellie Jane’s musical career could be.

Her latest effort, six song EP ‘Clocks’, sees her working solo. As demonstrated by the lead track above, her sound is built on the foundations of accessible pop. However, her love for urban, hip hop and drum’n’bass is also evident on the EP, setting her apart from many of her peers.

Slick pop single and album from Max Restaino

Max Restaino is a hugely talented multi-instrumentalist who already has an impressive musical CV behind him thanks to years working as a session musician. Having worked with the likes of Gary Barlow, Donny Osmond, Geri Halliwell and more, the time has now come for this young man to take centre stage with new album ‘The Time it Takes’.

Out now, the album is a high quality collection of upbeat pop like single ‘No’ above, and is a great reflection of his pop genre style as well as his smart lyrical dexterity. If you like what you hear, you can keep yourself informed at Max’s website and all the usual social platforms.

‘Make You Happy’ single precedes new EP from Dale McKay

A talented songwriter who is deserving of the growing exposure his music is getting, Dale McKay is a Sheffield based pop artist with a twist. Showcasing his upbeat, acoustic side as well as his fine vocal and great production, his online streaming release of ‘Make You Happy’ does exactly what such releases should do – whet the appetite for the releases to follow.

In this case, the track is here to promote a new EP titled ‘Here and Now’. A four track release which includes the song above, it arrives from online stores from September 16th and has all the hallmarks of a very strong independent release. This is pop music minus the incessant ‘beats’ and without a whiff of cheese – all of which makes it a worthy EP release to get excited about.

Upbeat pop track out now from George Montague – ‘Lost’

Versatile and extremely talented in too many areas of music to list, George Montague is a singer-songwriter who could take his pick of style, genre or career in the music industry. Choosing to specialise in a lovely, lilting pop sound, Montague is celebrating the release of his album ‘Curiouser and Curiouser George’ with this excellent single and video.

Drawing favourable comparisons to the likes of Ed Sheeran and perhaps even Jack Johnson, Montague builds this catchy little number around a fun acoustic guitar rhythm, over which his honeyed vocal fits perfectly. It’s precisely this level of talent which has put Montague’s YouTube views up into the millions, and if you’ve clicked on the video above, you’ve just added yourself to an ever growing list of people discovering the excellence of George Montague.

Joe Rhinewine – ‘Songs from NowHere’ EP out now

When it comes to music and song writing that chooses to step outside the normal bounds of style and genre, there’s a thin line between brilliance and pretentiousness. And whether you think this latest release from Joe Rhinewine is the former or the latter will likely come down to your taste.

Available to stream online now, new single ‘In The Box (Put It)’ finds Rhinewine on knockabout form, laying an improvised vocal over a very well executed blues backing. The approach may be jarring to some, and outright dismissed by others. But there’s a humour and purity of purpose here that gives the track a lo-fi charm that’s hard to dismiss, and it’s more than enough to raise interest in his debut EP – ‘Songs from NowHere’ – which is out now on Amazon.

‘Wonder’ track online now from excellent ‘Clockface’ concept album – The Kite Collectors

Clocking in at a healthy 14 songs, ‘Clockface’ is the critically acclaimed debut album by Wiltshere trio The Kite Collectors. Principally written by vocalist and guitarist Robby Allen, the album is a concept album full of sharp tales and wit, driven by the rock genre.

Taken from the album for promotional purposes, ‘Wonder’ is a track that stands ably on its own two feet. From the assured acoustic blues opening, there’s a feeling that this is a song that knows where it’s going. And as the fuller sound kicks in and the song rolls towards it’s short, sharp climax, that feeling doesn’t dissipate.
