Clocking in at a healthy 14 songs, ‘Clockface’ is the critically acclaimed debut album by Wiltshere trio The Kite Collectors. Principally written by vocalist and guitarist Robby Allen, the album is a concept album full of sharp tales and wit, driven by the rock genre.
Taken from the album for promotional purposes, ‘Wonder’ is a track that stands ably on its own two feet. From the assured acoustic blues opening, there’s a feeling that this is a song that knows where it’s going. And as the fuller sound kicks in and the song rolls towards it’s short, sharp climax, that feeling doesn’t dissipate.

When a songwriter is compared to artists like Jose Gonzalez, Nick Drake and others of that ilk you know one thing for sure – this is going to music that moves you. This is definitely the case with Calming River, whose new EP ‘The Ones That We Left Behind’ is out now.
Thoughtful and melancholic without straying into outright negativity, the EP is clearly the work of a man who knows his way around an acoustic guitar. The complexity of those acoustic guitar lines is astounding, and would make a fine instrumental album in their own right.
However, the lyrics add a new dimension, full of feeling and reality. It’s said that Calming River is an artist best suited to small, intimate venues, and it’s not hard to see why from this EP release.
Sometimes getting a break in the music industry is down to being in the right place at the right time. Even for the most talented, you can send all the demo links in the world to everyone and still end up being ignored. Some people, however, do slip through the gaps and find themselves making the most of that talent.
Philip Murray Warson is a folk songwriter whose track above, ‘Following Time’, demonstrates that he is good at what he does. An actor as well as a musician, Warson is well used to being in front of an audience. However, in spite of all his experience treading the boards, it was a chance meeting in a London pub that led to him being invited to play gigs in New York.
That experience led to a new confidence in his songwriting, which has resulted in his new EP. ‘Last of the Hunted’ immediately won airplay on BBC introducing, and now it’s available through Bandcamp.
