Italian rock writer BigDee looks to revolutionise music industry with innovative subscription model

Ambitious Italian rock musician BigDee is the unique project of an innovative songwriter, creating a rule bending blend of classic rock and roll and a new model for the music industry.

Influenced by timeless rock music from the USA and the UK, BigDee produces top quality original rock and roll music made in Italy. For just a small taste of his classy, and classic, style, check out his track ‘Susan’:

Full of thumping rhythms and crunching guitars, his is the sound of a rock musician working to create truly inspiring new music that is built to be pulled apart and enjoyed time and again. Challenging himself to consistently write new songs that stand the test of time and quality, BigDee is an artist who is always pushing boundaries.

And it’s not just his music that sets him apart.

BigDee’s innovative distribution model sees him refuse to conform to the release of ‘singles’ and ‘albums’. Instead, fans of his music can subscribe to receive his new music directly with new, original rock songs available every 6-8 weeks. With a one-off subscription of €10, rock music fans can enjoy a lifetime subscription to new music from BigDee. You can subscribe here:

Finding no use for the traditional (read: old) forms of promotion, BigDee instead relies on word of mouth to bring people to his web pages, and encourages people to simply enjoy the music before subscribing forever with a one-off fee.

It’s an approach that is definitely working. With support from radio in Italy and the US, BigDee is now looking to bring his industry expanding ideas to the UK. Check out the websites below, and subscribe to BigDee now – your reward will be regular doses of old fashioned rock and roll.

New single, ‘You You’ by NuBorg

The latest single in a project which sees a new track out on the 15th of each month, ‘You You’ is the most straightforward ‘pop’ track yet from the excellent NuBorg. Usually working in a low-key, ambient (but still accessible) style, ‘You You’ sees the Norwegian songwriter take a slight left turn, but with top results.

The track was written with the help of established pop hit writers Martin Sutton (LeAnn Rimes, Backstreet Boys) and Ron Roker (Tina Charles) during a scenic songwriting session in the Andalusian Mountains. The message is simple, but effective – ‘Everything that makes you you is beautiful’. It’s elegant, succint and a great sentiment.

Keep an eye out for ‘Sliding Off the Edge of the World’ – the new album on the way in August.

The/Das – My Made Up Spook (official music video)

Berlin based duo The/Das release single My Made Up Spook on 23rd June 2014. The single is taken from their captivating debut album Freezer, released on August 18th 2014 via Sinnbus.

The video was filmed spontaneously in Mumbai by Fabian Fenk’s girlfriend – a vivid, dreamlike memory of their time together. There was no real plan, the pair wandered the streets filming the crazy haziness of the city.

My Made Up Spook quietly unravels from electronic beginnings, revealing the duo’s new direction as a band. The track straddles the line between intelligent pop and what they describe as ‘techno tenderness’. Imagine the razor-sharp polished sound Sohn created with his recent album Tremors but with a more organic, wistful edge.

The single is a departure from last year’s Speak Your Mind Speak EP, which gained praise from The 405, Clash, Artrocker, VICE’s Noisey and many more. With their latest album Freezer, The/Das prove they are one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the Berlin scene.

They first sprung to life in 2012 with their Fresh Water EP, released on Italy’s cutting edge dance label Life And Death. Collaborating with Life And Death’s Tale Of Us – one of the world’s hottest techno acts – they released two remixes for Me And My Drummer that caught the attention of the press and their peers all over Europe.

Duo Fabian Fenk and Anton K. Feist previously played together with Bodi Bill. As Bodi Bill, the band released four albums together and built a considerable fan base in their native Germany. In the UK, XFM, NME Radio and BBC 6Music picked them up with reviews and features coming from RCRDLBL, Notion, Shortlist Magazine and numerous websites and blogs. As The/Das, however, they’ve been creating noise online with The 405, Artrocker, Clash, Noisey and Notion praising their last EP Speak Your Mind Speak. They are no strangers to the live circuit either having played Melt, Eurosonic, Iceland Airwaves, Ekko Festival, to name but a few.

My Made Up Spook is only just a taster of what’s to come, out via Sinnbus on 23rd June 2014.

New single from NuBorg – ‘Sliding off the Edge of the World’ out now

Based in Norway, NuBorg is the new project from Norwegian singer-songwriter Gunhild Nyborg. Currently in the process of releasing her debut album track by track on the 15th of each month, the latest track ‘Sliding Off the Edge of the World’ is out now.

Brilliantly produced and dominated by a haunting vocal, the track is built on the dynamic lifts and falls of the verses and choruses, as well as a highly melodic bassline.

With a wide ranging approach to songwriting, NuBorg has been compared to a wide range of artists including the likes of Kate Bush, Massive Attack and Portishead. And though her songs might be versatile there are two things that tie them together – her thoughtful lyrics and her strong vocal delivery.

The monthly releases have seen NuBorg work with a host of top writers. February single ‘I Lie A Lot’ was co-written with Christopher Neil (Mike & The Mechanics co-founder), while next month’s track ‘You You’ involved established pop hit writers Martin Sutton (LeAnn Rimes, Backstreet Boys) and Ron Roker (Tina Charles).

Captured at Waterfall Studios in Oslo, the singles/album are produced by experienced muso Odd Harald Jensen, who drums for the band Babel Fish and also co-wrote one of the songs on Ronan Keating’s last album. Jensen is also collaborating on one of the upcoming singles on the NuBorg project – set for release in June or July.

The final single will be released on August 15th, when the album will be available to hear in full for the very first time.

All very impressive work from a single mum who has been fighting a serious illness over the last few years. Having won that battle, NuBorg is now grateful to be alive – Gunhild sums up the hard work best herself:

“I am grateful for being able to make this music real, make it come out of my head and out through the loudspeakers. I have had this sound inside me for the longest time and I have worked on learning music production, songwriting, and vocal techniques in order to be able to make it real.” NuBorg
