This is the opening/title track from the new EP from The Lowriders, a collection of songs written for the new feature film ‘I Am Soldier’. A brand of guitar laced indie rock that is proudly, and loudly, British, The Lowriders are a four piece from Essex who were specifically asked to write the tunes for the film based on their debut ‘Fury’.

The result is a fiery, testosterone fuelled collection of very good tunes that are well worth your time.

Cherry Ghost, ‘Clear Skies Ever Closer’

CherryWith his much-anticipated third album ‘Herd Runners’ due for release next month on Heavenly Recordings, Cherry Ghost has shared the video for the excellent ‘Clear Skies Ever Closer’ and announced a string of UK tour dates in June. Actress Maxine Peake (Shameless, Silk) makes her directorial debut with the video, and stars alongside Shaun Evans (Endeavour).

Video: Fight Like Apes – Crouching Bees

Having karate-chopped their way through some spiky EPs and two Choice-nominated albums, which both charted in the top 3 in the Irish chart, Fight Like Apes are back with their first release since The Body of Christ and the Legs of Tina Turner.   About time for the band named the fourth best Irish musical act of their generation by The Irish Times in 2009.

FLApes have hooked up with UK indie label Alcopop! Records to release the Whigfield Sextape EP, offering four fantastic new tracks that manage to keep the band’s agit-pop edge whilst dispensing with some of their traditional distorted sound. The opening track ‘Crouching  Bees’ is a taster of what’s to come on the new album, set for release later in May 2014.

Stanley Odd, ‘Chase Yirsel’

Chase YirselIt’s not necessarily the genre you’d expect coming out of a new band from Scotland, but ‘Chase Yirsel’ is a brand new hip hop track taken from the upcoming Stanley Odd EP.

With an amusingly up to date satirical bent, this is definitely a song to enjoy – and if you do, there are live dates below.

Live dates

22 April – London, The Garage
01 May – Aberdeen, Tunnels
03 May – Inverness, Brew at the Bog Festival
04 May – Middlesbrough, SumDay Festival

‘Reverie’ – the new single from Resonance

Resonance_Rooftop700According to their press release, Resonance’s music is constantly finding new fans from the UK and beyond. And based on this new single, it’s not hard to see why.

Mastered by John Davis (Led Zeppelin, U2, Lana Del Rey, Paloma Faith), the track is an absolute treat. You sometimes get the idea that musicians take their songwriting too seriously. But playing instruments should be exactly that – playing. And that is the vibe you get from this song.

‘Reverie’ is a track suited to the oncoming summer, and something you might expect to hear at a place like the Notting Hill festival. With a strong South American feel, it makes excellent use of two interplaying (there’s that word again) guitars and some bright, metaphor laden lyrics.

You can enjoy ‘Reverie’ below, and download it from all good stores.

Ivan Moult, ‘Most of All’

Ivan MoultWith a quiet beauty akin to Ben Howard, Ivan Moult has a knack with his raw vocal and acoustic guitar. With over two years since his last release, he is readying himself for his new album (as yet unnamed) with a double free-download/single release.

Comprising ‘I Know I’ll Never Be Born Again’ and ‘Most of All’ (listen below), this is proof that Moult hasn’t lost any of the immediacy that makes him stand out.

So there you go, perfect listening for a Sunday afternoon, and a free download to boot. Aren’t we good to you?

You can find Ivan Moult live at these dates:

25th April 2014 – Four Bars at Dempseys, Cardiff w/ Steady Hands
13th June 2014 – Unearthed Festival, Solva
28th June 2014 – Snail Deli, Rhiwbina
12th July 2014 – Wakestock Festival, Llyn Peninsula

US sanctions against Russia set to disrupt Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus tours

Miley-Cyrus-Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake are waiting to find out of planned gigs in Finland, due to take place in June and May respectively, will contravene US sanctions against Russia.

As part of the dispute over Crimea, American businesses are forbidden from doing business with anyone in Vladimir Putin’s ‘inner circle’ – a list of 27 people known to have close ties with the Russian President. Helsinki’s Hartwall venue is owned by Gennady Timchenko and brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, three of the names on that list.

Also slated to appear this summer are Robbie Williams, Peter Gabriel, Aerosmith and Elton John – all of whom could also be affected due to their ties to US management companies.

No cancellations have been confirmed as yet, as the concerts’ US ticket promoter, Live Nation, could apply to the US Government for the concerts to go ahead. However, Live Nation has said it would work to ensure the US sanctions were upheld.

The situation hinges on whether or not money for the venue had already changed hands prior to the sanctions being put in place. If so, then no more money will change hands but the concerts may go ahead. If not, then the gigs are likely to be cancelled unless sanctions are lifted.
