Genre bending Voodoo Dancer release ‘Forever Girl’ single

Voodoo Dancer – a group of musicians based in the bustling musical heart of New York – are a difficult band to pin down in terms of genre. iTunes has them down as jazz, their Facebook page calls them rock, and their press release describes them as pop and soul. On top of all that, their new single – a remix of their track ‘Forever Girl’ – is a straightforward dance track.

Perhaps this blend of genre and influences speaks to the musical melting pot on offer from the various members of the collective at hand, with each member of Voodoo Dancer bringing their own spin to the party. Or maybe it speaks to a band still trying to find themselves and unsure of how to classify their sound.

Either way, the new single, and the remix, are both good fun and well worth a listen. And perhaps the rockier, jazzier side will be more in focus with later releases.

Producer Francis Groove with ace new single out now

In the last decade or so, there have been a number of artists who have moved from producers and DJs showcasing the work of others to respected artists in their own right. The likes of Roger Sanchez and Calvin Harris have opened the doors for talented men and women who are able to offer a live feel to produced pop, and latest person to walk through that door is the excellent Francis Groove.

He’s already got a bit of traction in his home country of Belgium, and new single ‘Alright (Take My Hand)’ – which you can hear above – will hopefully get some attention on a wider scale.

Beautiful new single from Rachel Johnson – ‘Safe Island’ out now

It’s strange that the lasting impression left by Rachel Johnson’s new single is so different from the one you initially start with. As the song ends, you’re left with a rhythmic, epic chorus ringing in your ears. However, press play again and you’re reminded that everything starts very differently – with subtle melodies and simple instrumentation.

It’s remarkable that the song moves from one to the other without lurching clumsily, instead building in an organic way towards its huge finale. ‘Safe Island’ is out today on iTunes, and proves that Rachel Johnson certainly has a way about her.

FREE DOWNLOAD SINGLE – Philip Murray Warson, ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’

An old folk classic, ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ has stuck around for a reason. And from the very first moments of this new version by Philip Murray Warson you know you’re in safe hands. From the subtle opening guitar, to the warm harmonies and even the beautiful horn section, this is superbly built folk from the ground up.

You can download and keep a copy by clicking above (top right), and there’s plenty more of this beautifully lilting vocal in the full debut EP – out now on Bandcamp: http://philipmurraywarson.bandcamp.com/

New video from Naomi – ‘Take Back the Power’

19 years old but already getting herself heard in the music industry, Naomi is a new pop song writing force to be reckoned with. ‘Take Back the Power’ is her new video, taken from her new EP of the same name out April 22nd. And for those with a love of great pop music, this is one to get your ears around.

In fact, it might be well worth getting on board with Naomi now, because it may not be long before she’s much more widely known. National newspapers are already touting her as a possible star, and BBC radio aren’t far behind on the hype train. If you want to be able to say you were the first of your friends to hear her, then now’s the perfect time to bookmark http://www.naomimusic.co.uk/

‘Shoot The Witness’ stream out now – Strangers Know More

Originally featured on album ‘Rumours, Lies, Tears & Tantrums’, the new streaming track from vintage rockers Strangers Know More is titled ‘Shoot the Witness’ and it’s available online now. It finds the trio on great form, and it comes as no surprise to learn that they’ve been playing music – both separately and together – since the seventies.

That sort of background breeds confidence, and there’s certainly plenty of confidence on show here. It builds on simple rock song structures and foundations, but adds in flourishes from punk, new wave and even moments of pure, catchy pop.

It’s a strong cocktail, and there’s more coming soon. For more on that you can find their website here.

Naomi on target with new music – EP ‘Take Back the Power’

When an artist’s debut EP is titled ‘Take Back The Power’, the betting is good that that artist is set to make a strong impact. In the case of singer and song writer Naomi, this EP is likely to do just that.

The track above is just a small taste of her infectious pop sound, and has already got the attention of new music tastemakers at The Guardian, The Independent, BBC radio, Huffington Post and a whole lot more. Frankly, the list is too long to type out.

In addition, her music is produced by a trio of top names, who have worked with huge names including Michael Jackson, Westlife and another long list of global stars.

In short, the signs are good for Naomi and her new EP, set to make a splash on April 22nd.

New pop song from Magazine Gap – ‘What’s That About?’

If you live in London and are into the independent music scene, you may know that there is currently a dearth of strong, top quality pop bands on the circuit. Thankfully, Magazine Gap are here to fill that gap (pun intended).

Arguably the UK’s answer to Maroon 5, Magazine Gap delight in creating thumping pop music with a rocky edge. The latest example is single ‘What’s That About?’, a new single which leads the way before a new album later this year.

‘Voices’ single out today from Patrick McCallion

There are many talented young singer-songwriters on the circuit in the UK at the moment, catering for all tastes, shapes and sizes. One of the most promising upstarts in the acoustic-pop-rock genre is Patrick McCallion – a raw, powerhouse songwriter from the North.

His new song ‘Voices’ marks the start of a number of singles coming this year. And, though it is perhaps softer and more personal than some of his edgier material from last year, there’s a lot to enjoy here. The melodies are quietly infectious, the lyrics affecting – and the video is pretty good too.
