Much anticipated NuBorg album out now, + UK show

A Norwegian singer songwriter who is so far flying a bit under the radar, Nuborg deserves a lot more plautits than she’s getting, as evidenced by the title track to her new album, ‘Sliding Off the Edge of the World’:

Patient, considered and brilliantly constructed, this song perfectly sums up the album of which it is a part. Throughout last year, this single and eight others were released over the months, each building to the release of the full album in early 2015. And now the album is out on iTunes, the collection of the songs altogether makes the impact of each track all the more impressive.

It’s a nine song LP that really shows that we don’t have to be satisfied with the big labels’ output. All independently produced and released, this is truly great music that you won’t hear on the radio (though you should).

Even better, Nuborg (aka Gunhild Nyborg) comes to England this week for a first ever live show with her band. Get along to The Islington in London to see what all the fuss is about.

New single – ‘One Day’, NuBorg

Once again, NuBorg – the Norwegian singer-songwriter who’s been consistently releasing excellent singles over the course of 2014 – has returned with another cracker.

Quite similar in feel to her excellent (and still my favourite) ‘Sliding Off The Edge Of The World’, ‘One Day’ is a song dripping with atmosphere, somehow ominous in its sound but still genuinely beautiful. NuBorg’s vocal is unusual, tight as opposed to broad, but suits this kind of song really well. Another really enjoyable song – keep them coming!

New single, ‘You You’ by NuBorg

The latest single in a project which sees a new track out on the 15th of each month, ‘You You’ is the most straightforward ‘pop’ track yet from the excellent NuBorg. Usually working in a low-key, ambient (but still accessible) style, ‘You You’ sees the Norwegian songwriter take a slight left turn, but with top results.

The track was written with the help of established pop hit writers Martin Sutton (LeAnn Rimes, Backstreet Boys) and Ron Roker (Tina Charles) during a scenic songwriting session in the Andalusian Mountains. The message is simple, but effective – ‘Everything that makes you you is beautiful’. It’s elegant, succint and a great sentiment.

Keep an eye out for ‘Sliding Off the Edge of the World’ – the new album on the way in August.

New single from NuBorg – ‘Sliding off the Edge of the World’ out now

Based in Norway, NuBorg is the new project from Norwegian singer-songwriter Gunhild Nyborg. Currently in the process of releasing her debut album track by track on the 15th of each month, the latest track ‘Sliding Off the Edge of the World’ is out now.

Brilliantly produced and dominated by a haunting vocal, the track is built on the dynamic lifts and falls of the verses and choruses, as well as a highly melodic bassline.

With a wide ranging approach to songwriting, NuBorg has been compared to a wide range of artists including the likes of Kate Bush, Massive Attack and Portishead. And though her songs might be versatile there are two things that tie them together – her thoughtful lyrics and her strong vocal delivery.

The monthly releases have seen NuBorg work with a host of top writers. February single ‘I Lie A Lot’ was co-written with Christopher Neil (Mike & The Mechanics co-founder), while next month’s track ‘You You’ involved established pop hit writers Martin Sutton (LeAnn Rimes, Backstreet Boys) and Ron Roker (Tina Charles).

Captured at Waterfall Studios in Oslo, the singles/album are produced by experienced muso Odd Harald Jensen, who drums for the band Babel Fish and also co-wrote one of the songs on Ronan Keating’s last album. Jensen is also collaborating on one of the upcoming singles on the NuBorg project – set for release in June or July.

The final single will be released on August 15th, when the album will be available to hear in full for the very first time.

All very impressive work from a single mum who has been fighting a serious illness over the last few years. Having won that battle, NuBorg is now grateful to be alive – Gunhild sums up the hard work best herself:

“I am grateful for being able to make this music real, make it come out of my head and out through the loudspeakers. I have had this sound inside me for the longest time and I have worked on learning music production, songwriting, and vocal techniques in order to be able to make it real.” NuBorg
