‘Trick of the Light’ video from fantastic new Alexander Wolfe album

Out now on iTunes, ‘From The Shallows’ is the new album from the extremely good hands and mind of songwriter Alexander Wolfe. The album is a real triumph, typified by the layered excellence of lead track ‘Trick of the Light’ above.

If you dig the track, then we can highly recommend the rest of the album. We’ve heard it (spotify) and it’s consistently great throughout – and not always typified by the folky nature of the track above. It will also jump out at fans of pop, indie, maybe even rock…give it a try.

Much anticipated NuBorg album out now, + UK show

A Norwegian singer songwriter who is so far flying a bit under the radar, Nuborg deserves a lot more plautits than she’s getting, as evidenced by the title track to her new album, ‘Sliding Off the Edge of the World’:

Patient, considered and brilliantly constructed, this song perfectly sums up the album of which it is a part. Throughout last year, this single and eight others were released over the months, each building to the release of the full album in early 2015. And now the album is out on iTunes, the collection of the songs altogether makes the impact of each track all the more impressive.

It’s a nine song LP that really shows that we don’t have to be satisfied with the big labels’ output. All independently produced and released, this is truly great music that you won’t hear on the radio (though you should).

Even better, Nuborg (aka Gunhild Nyborg) comes to England this week for a first ever live show with her band. Get along to The Islington in London to see what all the fuss is about.

‘Little Bird’ single out now from Jess Thristan

At just 19, Jess Thristan is one of the UK’s top young female singer-songwriters, and she’s returned with new single and video ‘Little Bird’:

Sweet and catchy, it’s a beautiful new offering from a great new artist who is relying on good old fashioned songwriting to make her way as opposed to over production and skimpy swimwear. It’s refreshing to see, and marks her out as a genuine talent in a tough industry to get into.

With a live performance on Radio 2 already under her belt though, Thristan has every chance of making it to the next level – a very promising prospect indeed.

New EP from Josh Healey – ‘Lost, Found & Lost Again’ – Oct 27th

Already getting radio play with the lead track ‘Sometimes’, the new EP from Josh Healey is released next Monday. A singer-songwriter with a gentler touch than many, the five tracks on the EP demonstrate an artist who is assured in his songwriting and as such doesn’t feel the need to shout from the rooftops. In stark contrast, his music is uniformly understated and built on a very strong (and clearly thought out) approach to his lyrics.

Here is the opening track ‘Sometimes’ by way of example.

Perhaps the most commercial of all the songs on the EP (it’s no surprise that it’s this one that’s been chosen to take to radio) this serves as a very good introduction to the work of Healey, but for a fuller flavour the rest of the EP comes highly recommended too. Each of the sings has a distinct personality, whether strummed or plucked on the acoustic, while the vocal remains delicately poised throughout.

The Novatones Set to Release New Material

Southampton’s very own indie four piece The Novatones are set to release their eagerly anticipated new EP ‘Sunday Romance’ on the 20th September.

Fresh from their well-received performance at this year’s Isle of White Festival, the boys entered the studio to get their latest offering ready for the waiting public.

Previous releases ‘For Monies Sake’ and ‘Begging at the Bunhouse’ have seen, Anthony Pittman (Guitar and Lead Vocals), Sean Swift (Drums and Percussion) Mackenzie Gordon-Smith (Guitar and Backing Vocals) and Toby Hornby-Patterson (Bass and Backing Vocals), develop a growing fan base that is starting to spread far beyond their south coast home.

The video for the wonderfully catchy ‘Living for the Weekend’ has gained some impressive numbers on YouTube and shows the band at their playful best. Jangling indie pop guitars and a chorus that hooks you right into the weekend, make this tune a growing indie staple.

The more melodic ‘Avenue Road’ shows a more sensitive side to the band with its heartfelt lyrics and gentler sound.

The Novatones impressive back catalogue shows a band that are continually growing musically and the new EP will see the further development of a band at the top of its game.

August will see the release of some tasters from the new EP but at the moment you can check out what the band have been up to so far here.

‘Reverie’ – the new single from Resonance

Resonance_Rooftop700According to their press release, Resonance’s music is constantly finding new fans from the UK and beyond. And based on this new single, it’s not hard to see why.

Mastered by John Davis (Led Zeppelin, U2, Lana Del Rey, Paloma Faith), the track is an absolute treat. You sometimes get the idea that musicians take their songwriting too seriously. But playing instruments should be exactly that – playing. And that is the vibe you get from this song.

‘Reverie’ is a track suited to the oncoming summer, and something you might expect to hear at a place like the Notting Hill festival. With a strong South American feel, it makes excellent use of two interplaying (there’s that word again) guitars and some bright, metaphor laden lyrics.

You can enjoy ‘Reverie’ below, and download it from all good stores.
