Genre bending Voodoo Dancer release ‘Forever Girl’ single

Voodoo Dancer – a group of musicians based in the bustling musical heart of New York – are a difficult band to pin down in terms of genre. iTunes has them down as jazz, their Facebook page calls them rock, and their press release describes them as pop and soul. On top of all that, their new single – a remix of their track ‘Forever Girl’ – is a straightforward dance track.

Perhaps this blend of genre and influences speaks to the musical melting pot on offer from the various members of the collective at hand, with each member of Voodoo Dancer bringing their own spin to the party. Or maybe it speaks to a band still trying to find themselves and unsure of how to classify their sound.

Either way, the new single, and the remix, are both good fun and well worth a listen. And perhaps the rockier, jazzier side will be more in focus with later releases.

Single/Video out now – ‘My Name in the Echo’ by C’nky Siwela – EDM

It’s a common tale among songwriters, musicians and artists that – even as they’re working to make their dreams come true – those around them will tell them it’s never going to happen. This is apparently the inspiration behind the new single from C’nky Siwela, a South African songwriter who has had his share of doubters.

Looking to share that sense of overcoming those doubters and continuing to work, the track has an upbeat feel throughout. It seems cheesy to simply say it’s a song about chasing dreams, but the fact is that is still an inspirational message.

For trying to share that, Siwela should be saluted, and it helps that the song is catchy as hell too.
